Hi Moms,
First I would like to say, “Happy New Year!!” We made it! We survived!
Now, for those of you who do not know, I live here in sunny South Africa. Yes, you heard me. No, we do not have wild animals roaming the streets or living in our backyards (although sometimes the kids do tend to get a bit unruly) but that’s beside the point.
This year I suggest that we as moms take back what is ours (or use to be in the whole sanity department) and no, I don’t suggest going all “Bad Moms” either… but sometimes a good ‘girls day out’ with your besties isn’t a bad idea.
I’m talking about taking the time out for yourself. Learn who you are with the kids. Find new hobbies or rediscover the old ones. Take the time to look after you. No, it doesn’t make you a terrible mother if you are not 100% committed to your child or even if you do not love being a mom 100% of the time
Learn to fill your cup first, because you cannot pour from an empty one.
I’m taking this year for myself. My daughters are 6 (starting her first year in Big school next week) and 4, and I want them to see a mom that lives a happy life. That can pull herself towards herself and be who she was meant to be. I have decided to be the example that I needed, you know the one where you had a strong, independent woman that seemed like she can take on the world and still be there for everyone. To show that women are not just the housekeeper and carer that the world has made them out to be.
This year is going to be my year where I take back my happiness because I have learned that you are in charge of your own happiness. You cannot let someone else try to make you happy if you cannot even be happy on your own. Besides, people are unreliable and if you rely on them to make you happy…well then you will never be. (A lot of happy in that one hey… but that’s what we need – Happy)
Before my ramblings become too long and seem like a lecture, I will leave you with this:
So moms, take this year, believe in yourself, and light that fire to be the you you always wanted to be!!
Have fun discovering
