New Year…New Reads!

Hey Scribblers!

Happy New Year! Sorry to be late to the party!

We are already a month into 2023 and it seems like January was just a trial timeframe that we all use to get back into the swing of things. Some of us (in the Southern Hemisphere especially) are trying to find our feet after the holidays and getting back into the routine of things. I know I am. A new year, the kids have been home for the holidays since the 9th of December and the new school year started on the 11th of January, keeping them entertained for that entire month can drive one up the wall.

But we are back with big things happening this year, not only in the reading aspects of Collective Scribbler, but also in the writing and publishing world for Lea Cherry.

Want to know what’s happening?

What are we reading?

I have organized my TBR in many ways. On my Goodreads Account, I have joined the reading challenge of 2023 to include 70 books to read this year. This will also fall into my #Heightinbookschallenge on TikTok as last year I placed as many books to see how many would match my height. I didn’t get very far last year as I only started quite late with it, but hopefully, this year would be better.

This year, to avoid being genre/book biased, I have dropped all my physical unread books so that I cannot see their titles. Whenever I want to read a new book, I take a dice and roll it to see which shelf I end up on. Then I roll again to see which book in that shelf I will read.

This forces me to read whatever I choose and not just according to my mood. Try it, it helps.

Another thing I have done is join the TSBC (The Secret Book Club) 2023 Reading Challenge where you have to read a book according to the challenge set.

Here is the challenge and the books I have chosen. Note: Not all challenges have books in them yet, so if you have recommendations for them, be free to share!

  • A book with a blue cover – Book of Night by Holly Black
  • TSBC Book Recommendation –
  • A book with a name or number in the title – Jack the Ripper by Gyles Brandreth
  • A book with a Nautical theme – House of Salt & Sorrow by Erin A. Craig
  • A non-fiction book – 90 minutes in heaven by Don Piper
  • A New York Times Bestselling Book – The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren (book not in picture)
  • An Indie Author Book – The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan
  • Forbidden Love book – Hot for the Principal by Alexandria Goncalves
  • A book with pizza in it –
  • A book with a color in the title – A Cage of Gold & Lies by Selina A. Fenech
  • A book set in another country – Fright Night by Maren Stoffels (Note, anything outside of South Africa works for this theme for me)
  • Book by an author with the same initial as you – Teardrop by Lauren Kate (My name is Lea Cherry)
  • A book with non-human characters – The Beast by Ann Evans
  • A book published in 2023 –
  • A book with a one-word title – Freeks by Amanda Hocking
  • A book over 500 pages – Heart Blood Trilogy by Selina A. Fenech (book not in picture)
  • A book set in a place you’ve always wanted to visit –
  • A book that became a movie/TV series – The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
  • A book written by a TSBC author – Written in Flames by Ashleigh Giannoccaro
  • A BookTok Recommedation –
  • A reread – Dead Poet’s Society by N.H. Kleinbaum
  • A mystery/thriller book – First Time I Knocked by Jo Macgregor

What is on your TBR list this year?

Writing & Publishing for 2023

The year of 2023 will be a very exciting time as an author and hopefully, you will all be with me there.

First on the list for 2023 is the last installment of the Descendants Series – Exposed

What is it about?

The end is near…would you trust the enemy?

The last few months have turned Amy’s life upside down. She discovered who she really was with a life she never knew existed right under her nose. An entire world opened up to her only to be shattered by events she never wanted to experience. She lost Ryker, her friends betrayed her trust, the most powerful Tainted wanted her soul and she learned that her mother didn’t die when she was two. Did I mention that she also found out who her father was?

Amy was ready to throw it all away when her magic disappeared, but she knew that her life would never be the same even without her power. The paranormal will still be around her, and now, with her mother found, she needs to find a way to reunite her mother’s body with her soul that is trapped in the ethereal.

The only obstacle is that she needs someone of Pure-blood to power-share to bring her mother back and the only person with this ability is the enemy trying to steal her soul. Could she trust him enough to save the last remaining family she has left or would the witches she has surrounded herself with be enough?

For fans of Carolyn MacCullough, Jana Oliver and Rachel Hawkins.

Grab the final installment of the Descendant series to find out if you can trust the enemy and if blood is thicker than water.

More books to come this way:

STARLIGHT – Book 1 in the Elesseand Saga (Coming April 18)

What is it about:

Legion Warrior. Elesseand Princess. Starlight.

All I had ever wanted to do was to protect my realm, my kingdom, and when my mother died she handed me the reigns of Starlight. It was now my duty to keep my people safe.

My next title should be Queen, but my father has ancient beliefs that I need a husband in order to rule, but I feel that love is a distraction to the world I live in.

There is a darkness crawling closer. Inching near with every day. I can feel it in my light and with rumors of the Darkling roaming around, hiding in the shadows, I do not have time to fall in love even if the man my father chose sends ripples down my body. His stare touches my soul and his smile alone does things to me that I do not want to admit.

I can’t afford not being focused. I can’t afford to let the Darkling cast shadows in my world. I can’t let the wraiths hollow my people out… And I sure as hell can’t afford to fall for a rogue when my world seems to be collapsing.

My name is Tekana, and I am my Kingdom’s only hope.

For fans of Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout.
